Why we Chose The hotel W Hong Kong for a layover?
One of the main reasons we chose W Hong Kong was its unbeatable location: directly connected to Kowloon Station and the Elements Mall, making it one of the easiest hotels to reach from Hong Kong International Airport. The rooftop pool was also a big factor in our choice! By 18:00, we were already swimming, enjoying city views as the pool reopened after a quick shower spell.
Getting from Hong Kong Airport to W Hong Kong
Getting into the city couldn’t be easier thanks to the Hong Kong Airport Express. From the terminal, we went straight to the train and were at Kowloon Station in under 30 minutes.
Instead of using ticket machines, buy your Airport Express tickets at the Customer Service Centre in the terminal. For two people, you can get a discounted “group of 2 single journey” set (HKD 85 (9,50 EUR) instead HKD 115 (12,50 EUR per person).
From Kowloon Station, follow the signs to Elements Mall. W Hong Kong has its own entrance inside.

Rooftop Pool at W Hong Kong
If you’re arriving after a long-haul flight, the rooftop infinity pool at W Hong Kong is the perfect place to unwind. Set on the 76th floor, it offers panoramic views of Kowloon and the harbour. Even with limited time in the city, this experience alone made our stay worthwhile.

Dinner at Hutong Hong Kong with Skyline Views
After a refreshing swim, we headed to Hutong Hong Kong, a restaurant famous for its Northern Chinese cuisine and unbeatable harbour views. Thanks to a recommendation from a friend, we booked a window-side table at 19:30 to enjoy the nightly Symphony of Lights show.
Every evening at 20:00, Hong Kong’s skyline comes alive with lasers, lights, and projections. At Hutong, you don’t hear the accompanying music but instead enjoy live DJ, outstanding food, and an unforgettable view.
What to order at Hutong:
- Peking duck – a must-order, crispy perfection (reserve in advance!)
- Dim sum platter – delicate and beautifully presented
- Signature cocktails & champagne – perfect for a celebratory evening
- Desserts – a sweet ending with a view
Note: A window-side table comes with a minimum spend of 1,500 HKD (165 EUR) + 10% service charge per person. If you’re in Hong Kong for longer than one night, you may want to save money by watching the Symphony of Lights from the Avenue of Stars along the waterfront instead.

Evening Stroll Along Victoria Harbour
After dinner, we walked along the promenade to see the Avenue of Stars and the historic Kowloon-Canton Railway Clock Tower. It was the perfect way to stretch our legs after a 15-hour flight before heading back to the hotel for a good night’s sleep.

Practical Tips for a Short Stay in Hong Kong
- Visa info: Most European citizens can enter Hong Kong visa-free for up to 90 days. Always check requirements for your nationality before traveling.

- Best view of Symphony of Lights: Hutong or the Avenue of Stars.
- Layover tip: If you only have one night, W Hong Kong is perfect thanks to its easy airport access, rooftop pool, and luxury comfort.
Final Thoughts
Our 15-hour layover in Hong Kong was short but sweet. From the convenience and style of W Hong Kong Hotel to an unforgettable dinner at Hutong Hong Kong, we managed to relax, eat well, and soak in the city’s skyline before our onward flight to Bali.
If you’re planning a quick stopover in Hong Kong, this combination of hotel and restaurant is a perfect way to experience the city in just one night.
